Kids Clubs

Academy kids clubs are ideal for nature and science-loving children, and they meet regularly at Phinizy Swamp Nature Park. Annual club dues include meetings, a club T-shirt, membership certificate, and four issues of the kids club newsletter, Swamp Nuts. The Cattail Kids club is designed for Kindergarten through second grade children, the Gator Gang is for third through fifth graders, the Middle School Ecology club is for sixth through eight graders, and the Creek Freaks Club is for students in eighth grade through twelfth grade.

Cattail Kids Club
The Cattail Kids Club was founded in 2000 as a nature-based club for children in kindergarten through second grade. Club meetings last an hour to an hour and a half, and cover topics such as recycling, insects, bird watching, or nature hiking. Parental involvement is encouraged and welcomed! Meetings are from 4:30 until 5:30 or 6:00 (varies with the meeting topic). Gator Gang
The Gator Gang was founded in fall 2001 for third through fifth graders who enjoy nature and the outdoors. Each meeting is full of hands-on learning activities and outdoor nature discoveries. Muskrateers Club
Muskrateers began in 2005 for sixth through eighth grade students. Club meetings consist of meaningful hands-on learning opportunities and fun! Students will help to carry out ecological restoration projects as well as participate in other ecology based activities. Meetings will take place monthly (except December and July).

Creek Freaks
The Creek Freaks Club was founded in 2003 for students in eighth through twelfth grade. These young scientists perform chemical and biological monitoring of Butler Creek, and they were recognized by President George W. Bush with the President's Environmental Youth Award in 2005 and by the Secretary of the United States Department of the Interior Gale Norton with the Youth Division of the Take Pride in America Award in 2004. This club focuses on stream and water quality issues in the Nature Park and Central Savannah River Area.

Eagle Eyes Birding Club NEW!!
The Academy is pleased to offer an additional club for students ages 7 to 16. Membership includes monthly meetings, quarterly bird walks, and participation in the annual Georgia Youth Birding Competition.
