Serving
the teachers of the CSRA is one of the Academy's most important
functions. In providing field trips to their students, a site for
student independent research, resources for teacher use, or training
opportunities in environmental education, we support teachers in
their efforts to enhance student knowledge of and interest in environmental
education.

FIELD TRIP PROGRAMS

School field trips to Phinizy
Swamp Nature Park are the central education service the Academy
offers to the community. Programs are designed to coordinate with
the unique natural wonders the Nature Park has to offer -- habitat
diversity, water quality issues, and organisms adapted to wetlands
are the central focus of many of the programs. Programs are also
coordinated with current state science standards to make sure they
support classroom learning. Taking your class on a field trip to
Phinizy Swamp Nature Park, however, is more than meeting education
standards. It is about teaching every child in the community the
beauty of nature and the value of being a good environmental citizen.

As
part of its commitment to affect education at all levels, the Academy's
goal is to become the premier environmental education workshop training
center in the CSRA by offering numerous environmental education
classes to teachers throughout the year. Through arrangements with
partnering school systems, these classes often qualify for professional
learning units as well. Current and future offerings include Project
WET and Project WILD, WOW! The Wonders of Wetlands, Georgia Adopt-A-Stream
Certification, and Georgia Native Seasons. New workshops are being
developed and offered annually, so make sure to check our calendar
page for upcoming teacher workshop opportunities.
