Level 4
- Student can accurately list more than seven characteristics of birds.
- Student can accurately list five or more of the bird categories we discussed, and can describe the general behaviors displayed by birds in each category.
- Student can list and describe at least five factors that are important observations when seeking to identify a bird, and how they will help in the identification.
Level 3
- Student can accurately list more than five characteristics of birds.
- Student can accurately list three or more of the bird categories we discussed, and can describe the general behaviors displayed by birds in each category.
- Student can list and describe at least three factors that are important observations when seeking to identify a bird, and how they will help in the identification.
Level 2
- Student can accurately list only three characteristics of birds.
- Student can accurately list only one of the bird categories we discussed, but can list behaviors of birds in many other categories (without being able to name the category).
- Student can list factors that are important observations when seeking to identify a bird but does not truly understand how these will aid in identification.
Level 1
- Student can accurately list less than three characteristics of birds.
- Student can describe several different bird behaviors and general characteristics, but has no ability to categorize birds accurately.
- Student cannot list factors that are important observations when seeking to identify a bird.
